Overjet
Upper front teeth that stick out too far forward.
What Is It?
Overjet (sometimes called "buck teeth") is when the upper front teeth protrude significantly in front of the lower teeth horizontally. Different from an overbite, which is vertical.
Signs to Look For
- Upper front teeth visibly stick out
- Lips may not close comfortably
- Higher risk of chipping or injuring front teeth
- Possible speech issues
What Causes It?
Genetics, prolonged pacifier or bottle use, thumb sucking, or a smaller lower jaw.
How We Fix It
Braces move the upper teeth back and/or bring the lower jaw forward. Rubber bands are often used to help correct the bite.
