Before and after: Phase 1 (Early Treatment)
Ages 7–10

Phase 1 (Early Treatment)

Early intervention while your child's jaw is still growing.

What Is It?

Phase 1 is orthodontic treatment for children ages 7–10 who still have a mix of baby and adult teeth. Treating certain problems early — while the jaw is still flexible — leads to much better outcomes.

Signs to Look For

  • Upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth (crossbite)
  • Severe crowding visible even with baby teeth
  • Lower jaw shifts to one side when biting
  • Significant overjet or underbite developing early
  • Thumb sucking habits past age 5

What Causes It?

Genetics, jaw growth patterns, or prolonged habits. Early evaluation at age 7 lets Dr. Kamdar catch problems before they become complex.

How We Fix It

Usually a palatal expander, partial braces, or a removable appliance for 6–18 months. A resting phase follows, then Phase 2 (full braces) around age 11–13.
