Deep Overbite
When your upper teeth overlap your lower teeth too much.
What Is It?
A deep overbite means your upper front teeth cover most or all of your lower front teeth when you bite down. A small overbite is normal — a deep one can cause problems over time.
Signs to Look For
- Lower teeth aren't visible when you smile
- Lower teeth may bite into the roof of your mouth
- Jaw soreness or headaches
- Uneven wear on the front teeth
What Causes It?
Usually genetics. Can also be caused by missing back teeth or childhood habits like thumb sucking.
How We Fix It
Braces or Invisalign gradually move the upper teeth up and lower teeth down to create a healthy bite. In some cases, rubber bands help speed the process.
